guests' expectations and we will do everything we can to make your
stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. We look forward to
your visit to the Clyde River Hotel."
The
Clyde River Hotel located in Island Pond, Vermont was formerly
known as the "Essex Hotel." Built in 1866 it remains basically as
it was back then. The Hotel itself straddles the Clyde River,
which is the outlet for Island Pond (the lake) whose banks are
only 100 feet away from the front door of the hotel. It's hard
wood floors still have a fresh look shine to them, along with the
"Grand Room" the interior looks as it did years ago.

In 1897 Harley
E. Folsom's widow, Jeanine Darling Folsom, built the light, spacious and
tastefully elegant home located in the center of town.
The Folsom house, designed by architect Lambert Packard, is an
impressive example of Dutch Colonial Revival with a gambrel roof. The
contractor was James Fay of St. Johnsbury, who also built Burklyn Hall,
the Elmer Darling mansion on the Burke-Lyndon line north of Lyndonville.
The Folsom house remained in the Darling family for over 90 years. To
this day the home has been owned by only three families.
The Folsom home now owned by Doug and Nancy Clarke has twelve rooms,
five fireplaces and magnificent woodwork throughout the home. The
carvings around the doorways and fireplaces are similar to that in
Burklyn Hall. |
